Abkhazia

[edit]

I used primary sources from UN documents which are available in every public or reference library catalogues. I never search online for reliable data (none in university practise source searching online) but if you insist (although you don’t have the ground to challenge any sources from official documents not available online but on hard copy). Dear Pocopocopocopoco! Dr. Levan Z. Urushadze really is a NOTABLE Georgian historian and public figure: he is one of the founders and Scientific Co-ordinator of the Museum of the Soviet Occupation of the Georgian National Museum, Doctor of Historical Sciences (Full Doctor, highest scientific degree in Georgia), Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS, USA), author of about 80 scientific papers and 5 monographs, one of the outstanding representatives of the Human Rights movement of Georgia of 1992-2003, etc. --Kalmosani (Ilia Khuntsaria), 08:09, 8 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stratfor

[edit]

Hi Pocopocopocopoco, Could you provide a source that does not need a member log in? It's difficult to check content if a Wikipedian has to register and/or pay. (It especially becomes problematic if a Wikipedian has to do so on a regular basis. Though sometimes it is unavoidable.) It's also difficult to read more about a topic. Btw: could you also attribute the quote to the author(s) rather than only to the think thank/agency. Greeting, Sijo Ripa 23:39, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pocopocopocopoco,
Thanks for your quick response and the source. Well, first I overlooked that it was a quote. Brackets are seldom used in Wikipedia - and are especially not used when the content is not secondary as it is the case (the difference between perhaps "on purpose" and more likely "accidental" is important). Also, the word "under-loved" seem to be a strange remark to be made by an analyst. Moreover, how can brackets be used in a quote? I mean, brackets are used in writings, not in interviews. But as you provided the source, there's of course not a problem. Sijo Ripa 09:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and Languages

[edit]

Greetings Cat! I couldn't help but notice from your user page that you "make tons of edits" to a number of language wikipedia's for which you don't seem to have knowledge of the language. Could you tell me how this works? The only reason I ask is that I think that wikipedia might be a good tool to learn new languages. Also, if you don't mind asking, what do you mean by that phrase at the top of your user page, the one that has aiur? Pocopocopocopoco 03:02, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I edit mostly with my bots on those wikis. The idea is that "edits" do not have a weight and I am holding my contribution equal. The Aiur quote is from StarCraft by a Protoss dark templar. -- Cat chi? 10:16, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

I noticed your clean-up efforts. Keep up the good work. I would encourage you to review other such articles such as Kurds in Lebanon. Given how the article started out and get edited primarily by one person. -- Cat chi? 01:48, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

...of these games, Poco? Now you decided to create a split between Wikipedia's Georgian and Turkish communities? --KoberTalk 17:49, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your advice, but I don't remember to have ever asked it. Also, I'm pretty sure that you're genuinely interested in Georgia, but from what I can see your interest is limited to putting exclusively negative info about Georgia, trying to get rid of articles that do not meet your pro-separatist POV, and promoting slanderish articles about Georgia. --KoberTalk 18:11, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As for the Georgians in Turkey. I've already explained that the Turkish government does not recognize Georgians as an ethnic minority and there're no census data available on them. Many Georgian ethnographic accounts put 1-1,5 mil as the number of ethnic Georgians living in Turkey, but I'm afraid you will denounce them as biased and unreliable. --KoberTalk 18:19, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Poco, I think you misunderstood me. I have no personal grievances against you, but your agenda is obvious to me. Anyway, I see no point in further discussion of this issue. Let’s return to the Turkish-Georgian story. The stats included in the Demographics of Turkey article come from the 1965 census, I guess. More than four decades have passed since then. Although assimilation is a powerful factor, Turkey has become more democratic nation and its people are proud to acknowledge their diversity in spite of some state-encouraged efforts to obscure their origins. I have met several Turkish citizens of Georgian extraction who no longer speak their mother tongue but identify themselves as Georgians. Their Turkish and Georgian identities are not conflicting, but complementary. They are loyal citizens of the Turkish state, but respect their ancestry. The Georgian society of Turkey consists of two large communities: the Georgians who are indigenous to NW Turkey and the muhajirs (Chveneburi) who had fled the Russian persecution to the Ottoman possessions. The estimates of their number vary to a high degree, ranging between 150,000 to 1 million. The former figure is an obvious underestimate, while the latter may seem somewhat exaggerated, but is still quite plausible.--KoberTalk 05:54, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have sources for the European Comunity involvement?--MariusM 10:15, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for refference. Should be mentioned however, that Voronin himself never aknowledged that he wanted initially to sign Kozak memorandum. While possible true, this information is coming only from opponents of Voronin. Presence of Russian troups was the main problem of Kozak plan, I think. Russia was involved in 1992 war, it can not be considered a neutral part. European Union is more neutral. Russia made a commitment to withdraw its troups, but it didn't follow the commitment. Transnistrian authorities also have a reputation of not following their commitments. Democratic life for citizens of Transnistria is not possible until Russian troups are still there. The settlement should bring democracy for the people of the region, not to legitimize a regime which is responsible for human right abuses and economic disaster of the region. A settlement which would give to Transnistria the right to influence decisions in Chişinău but will refuse Chişinău to influence decisions in Transnistria is not a democratic one.--MariusM 21:01, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know that you really enjoy another crisis in my country, but please try to stick to NPOV until I'm back on Wikipedia.--KoberTalk 05:24, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Poco. I think we've already discussed that extensively on that article's talk page. Anyway, the user talk page is not an appropriate place to continue the discussion. First, the website says its a blog and I don't understand why you question that. Second, abkhazia.com, and abkhazeti.ru are the NGO websites, not personal blogs. Third, your assertion that resistance.georgia is an expert blog is also not valid. I understand that she has impressed you, but she has always been considered as a political activist close to the Georgian Republican Party (which has recently lost one voter in the person of myself) rather than an expert in any particular field. If you're interested in I can recommend you some Georgian experts and scholars who are considered to be more or less neutral. They don't normally run slurish blogs, but their publications are available on the credible international websites. --KoberTalk 05:28, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Poco, are you trying to blackmail me? If you don't see the difference between the Georgian IDPs' NGO websites and that blog, I cannot help you. I'm sorry. And I'd also ask you to continue this discussion on the article's talk page. Btw, what do you think about this blog? Should we include it in the articles related to modern Russia and its politics? --KoberTalk 05:40, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding your second question, I don't really known any free Georgian-English translation tool, but I'll to try to search for it through Georgian engines. Articles by leading Georgian political scientists are regularly published on the websites such as OpenDemocracy, and CIPPD. I also like IWPR for its realtively neutral journalistic reports. --KoberTalk 05:50, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

I don't seem to be able to find the admin who blocked you in very short order; but while I must remind you that the three revert rule is not an entitlement to a set number of reverts and one can be blocked for a single edit in especially contentious areas, your assurance that you will stay away from the disputed article (and, I'll add, related articles) appears sufficient for me to lift a short block. I will, however, restore the block with its duration reset if you stray. Good editing.

Request handled by: — Coren (talk) 17:18, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Detailed Unblock Reasons

[edit]

1. The blocking admin said that I was edit waring but I was not edit waring at 2007 Georgian demonstrations, I made 1 revert that I didn't self revert in a 24 hour period.[2] The other editor made five.[3] All other edits I made were additions to the article that I were on the heels of an RFC that I had initiated which I had believed reached a consensus.
2. The other editor that was also blocked, user:Kober, received a warning first from the blocking admin that his editing behaviour was wrong before being blocked. I never received any such warning or any indication that my editing behaviour was wrong despite being in communcation with the blocking admin over this issue. In fact, if you read the blocking admins response in the link I provided, he says "Thanks for the report, by the way. It shows that you truly care about helping to build a better encyclopedia."
3. My last edit to the article in question was a self-revert.[4] This is not the actions of a revert warrior.
4. If unblocked, I promise to stay away from that article or any related articles for the remainder of the 24 hour period. There are plenty of unrelated articles which I can and plan to contribute during that period. Thanks in advance Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 16:50, 29 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As a quick note, I should mention that I absolutely hated to do that. Had there been another person or two involved in the dispute, I would have gladly protected the page and been done with it, because you're both good, prolific editors. :( But, it seemed like it just kept going back and forth despite both of you guys knowing there was a dispute, and you both chose to continue making edits to the article despite my caution to keep using the talk page. :\ Anyway, please don't take it personally, as I only wanted to calm the situation. International Law

[edit]

To answer your questions. There are two types of International recognition.

1- International recognition under International law.

A country has this when it signs international legal treaties and international agreements with other countries. Transnistria has many examples of this and is absolutely recognised as an independent state under international law. It even signs at inter-presidential level which is the ultimate recognition under International law. This is known as 'international legal personality'.

THis International recognition is the main international recognition. See below for the secondary and less meaningful type,

2 Full and Partial Diplomatic Relations

Full diplomatic relations-

When a country is established it attains International Legal Personality, it will then normally invite other countries to formalise international diplomatic status, this is not international recognition but more of a recognising and approval of it.

The Falkland Islands are a perfect example.

Very few countries in that part of the world recognise Britian's claim and control, and many openly support Argentina's territorial claim on the Island. At one point, the UN countries were divided 50/50 on its status. Therefore the Islands were partly recognised as being part of Argentina and also Partly recognised as part of UK....thus the word 'International recogition' was non concrete The only international recognition that mattered was that of who controled the territory under international law. This could only be the de-facto administration - The British.

To sort out the confusion it was determined that under International Law the over-riding consideration is that the de-facto legal status holds precedent over de-jure claims, however strongly supported.

So Falklands Islands are Internationally recognised as being part of UK, however dozens of countires believe the Islands lie within the Territorial Integrity of Argentina. But on wiki we should never state the FI are part of Argentina. Likewise it is not correct to say PMR is part of Moldova.

In Transnistria's case , countries are obliged not to form such diplomatic station while negotiatons are ongoing, yet under international law, the right to self determination is clearly set out, so there is strictly speaking nothing stopping anyone, but common practice is to hold off while disputes unravel themselves. Partial diplomatic Recogition.

This is when countries engage as equal status states and enter international agreements and discussion, Transnistria already has this with most countries.

More edit warring

[edit]

I will ask you to remember that the reason that I have shortened your block was that you would behave; staying away from the disputed article for the remainder of your block was a strict minimum. Your current disruption on NKAO-related pages could end up having you placed under editing restrictions, and you would be wise to reconsider bringing old nationalistic disputes to Wikipedia. — Coren (talk) 03:53, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was referring to your mass revert last week; this wasn't meant to be a "warning of impending doom" because of what you are doing right now so much as a reminder to behave in general. I now notice I should have said "recent" rather than "current"; my poor choice of wording is probably the reason you weren't quite sure what I was talking about.  :-) — Coren (talk) 14:55, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the two articles that you asked DGG to restore. In my opinion, UN Security Resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh War does not need to be userfied .. I think it is quite reasonable to have it as a list. That is just my opinion; maybe others disagree. I wont object to it being deleted after you have finished, or userfied if that is what you want. If you do want to userfy it, view the page, click the move button, and specify "User:Pocopocopocopoco/UN Security Resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh War" as the new name of the article. No worries. Did you see my comment on Talk:UN Security Resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh War?
I realise why you wanted it, and I consider it reasonable that you can see the full history, unless there are serious issues that would prevent them from being undeleted. Note that there is no need to ask arbcom to undelete; you just need to find an admin who has time to figure out what you are talking about. I've undeleted the history to each of those resolutions[6], so the only Ehud contribution that is still deleted is a single change to this article Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Menachem Nissel. The article was created by Jeremy12201986 on 23:52, 4 July 2007. The change Ehud made was on "18:35, 22 July 2007", and it consisted of significantly expanding the stub, adding roughly 1100 bytes, but the added text was about a book "Rigshei Lev" written by the person, so Ehud's added text was removed by DLand on 14:17, 9 August 2007. I would rather not undelete that page, even to userfy it, but if you think it is necessary, I will.

Regarding your edits to Maddox

[edit]

The sources are indeed poor, but the information contained within the article is factual and otherwise follows accordance with Wikipedia's policies. Instead of deleting all the information, try finding verifiable sources, or at least adding a [citation needed] tag to allow other editors to do so. Therefore, I hope you don't mind me reverting back to the original article, removing all the unverifiable sources, and try to replace them with sources that meet Wikipedia's guidelines. Thanks! Ali (t)(c) 22:26, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't reverted the changes yet, as I want to be sure I can find verifiable sources first. If you have time, I would appreciate it if you could add some sources as well. Here are some sites that you may find useful:

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Vermillion Energy Trust, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Vermillion Energy Trust seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Vermillion Energy Trust, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 03:01, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Since there were both a reasonable db and an under construction tag, I've moved the article to User:Pocopocopocopoco/Vermillion Energy Trust, where you can continue to built it.--Tikiwont (talk) 11:55, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ebay

[edit]

I think you were being very unfair... the auction had only been underway for a few hours at this point: "I'm inclined to agree with Hoary for now with no predjudice to adding this information later if other events happen that make it more notable. It doesn't seem encyclopedic to me to add every short little relationship that notable people may have. To top things off, Jimbo's stuff isn't really selling for that much, look at the t-shirt, the highest bid is $34. [6] Also, check out the bidder as well. It would have sold for more if this event was notable. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 04:34, 3 March 2008 (UTC)"

Let me know if you think these numbers make the incident notable yet? [[7]]

HELP

[edit]

{{helpme}} I believe wikipedia's spam filters may be malfunctioning, I tried to make a post to talk page here twice and both times the spam filter blocked my post. I didn't put the website that the spam filter said that I put. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 02:32, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spam filter? Do you mean your post was reverted? Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 02:38, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, when I hit save, a page came up saying that my post was blocked because it contained a link to a website that was on wikipedia's spam filter. I never put that website in my post. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 02:42, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This has happened to me before. You didn't spam anything, the filer hates a link that already is there. What I did when that happened was I found the link, removed it, and in the edit summary explained that the spam filter prevented me from editing the article until that link was gone. -WarthogDemon 02:44, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I tried searching for that link in the section that I was editing and it wasn't there I didn't edit from the top but just from the section. Does the filter only look inside the section or is it based on the whole talk page? Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 02:47, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Based on the whole page. Or perhaps it is in the article itself. (I could be wrong, as in both instances I was editing in the article space.) -WarthogDemon 02:50, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help guys! I've removed the spam (from another section) so I should be good to go. Pocopocopocopoco (talk) 02:51, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. :) I just tested it to make sure. Everything's fine now. Happy editing! -WarthogDemon 02:54, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I can see that Ldingley was indef blocked, but can you provide me a link to the banning discussion? GBT/C 16:57, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for that - there's a difference, though, between a block and a ban. A block is a technical measure where an admin removes the ability of an editor to edit for a period of time, or indefinitely. A ban is a community decision that an editor may not contribute to all or a part of the encyclopaedia. Whilst contributions of banned users may be deleted or reverted on sight, WP:BAN wouldn't appear to apply here, I don't think. GBT/C 17:14, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Tag it accordingly ({{coi}} etc.), maybe prod it - there's sufficient notability for it to survive speedy on the grounds of non-notability, but it may not survive a prod. GBT/C 17:21, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. Looks like the prod didn't go uncontested for very long there! GBT/C 17:45, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure. Give it a couple of days, I guess. GBT/C 18:01, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages such as English motherfucker, do you speak it?, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Bfigura (talk) 00:08, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stalking

[edit]

I just want to remind you that this kind of stalking [8] is considered as Wikipedia harassment according to the guideline on Wikistalking: "The term "wiki-stalking" has been coined to describe following a contributor around the wiki, editing the same articles as the target, with the intent of causing annoyance or distress to another contributor." Therefore, before i report you to admins (if this continues), i want to kindly remind you to stop stalking my user name or following my contributions. Please review the guideline carefully and instead of conflicting with other Georgian users, it would be more productive if you engage in more constructive way. I'm no warning you, just suggesting and reminding. Thanks. Iberieli (talk) 16:23, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nop you were not, you simply stalking people. Well paranoid is an attack and also another violation of Wikipedia:No personal attacks. Not nice indeed. Again more constructiveness less conflicting. Thats the way it always works. All the best. Iberieli (talk) 16:28, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring, notice of discretionary sanctions

[edit]

As you seem to be engaged in edit warring in an area covered by an arbitration committee case, this is to be your warning that discretionary sanctions, as provided in this case may be applied to you. Specifically, further edit warring may lead to a block from editing, or a temporary ban from editing articles on which edit wars have taken place. Please make sure to use dispute resolution rather than engaging in repeated reverts. Seraphimblade Talk to me 17:23, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I note the following reverts: [9], [10], [11], and [12]. The other editor is also edit warring, so both of you have been warned. However, neither the fact that the other editor is edit warring nor the fact that you technically may have avoided 3RR makes the behavior acceptable. If you disagree with him, please use dispute resolution, not repeated reverts. The warning stands as written. If you believe it to be incorrect, you may see the ruling linked to for the appropriate mechanisms of appeal. Seraphimblade Talk to me 17:37, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
On the final edit, I shall grant you, you are correct, those had never been added before. However, removals are reverts. If you had removed the content right after the editor who added it had done so, it would have been a clear revert. It is no less so since you did so later on. Seraphimblade Talk to me 18:08, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Again, the warning stands as it was written. If you should wish to appeal it, the relevant case page linked above contains procedures by which you may do so. I do not intend to remove the warning. Seraphimblade Talk to me 20:33, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

June 2008

[edit]

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits.
The next time you delete or blank page content or templates from Wikipedia, as you did to Sheylanli, you will be blocked from editing. Tan | 39 03:37, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to template-warning an apparent regular, there. But really, this is your final warning. Stop blanking content with no explanation. Tan | 39 03:39, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, hm. You are correct that I might have not looked far enough, but it seems that the more I look, the more you two are just edit warring anyways - and that needs to stop. You are no stranger to warnings about such things; Seraphim warned you just a week and a half ago above. However, in the spirit of things, I apologize for accusing you of "blanking content without reason" - this was confusing and probably not true. I removed the obvious "stop hand" from the above message, and I will also drop a message on the other's talk page, to be fair. Tan | 39 03:24, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dispute resolution

[edit]

I will certainly be happy to have a look at the dispute and assist as much as possible in bringing it to a resolution, but please do keep in mind that admins are no more empowered than any other editor to decide who is "right" in a content dispute. I would, however, encourage everyone involved to stop edit warring, as that tends not to resolve the dispute, and tends to lead this way. Discussion is always the best way to resolve disputes, and if the sides still can't come to an agreement, we certainly have dispute resolution for assistance from mediation or to invite uninvolved editors to comment on the matter. Seraphimblade Talk to me 15:28, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not accusing you (or for that matter anyone in particular) of edit-warring, if I were giving a specific warning to you I certainly would have made that clear. Just some general advice, I certainly know how these situations can become heated before we know it. As to the debate, I am quite frankly finding my eyes crossing as I try to untangle the back-and-forth going on, so I certainly couldn't offer any kind of informed advice. I did make a request on the thread that I believe might help clarify things, would you mind laying out your viewpoints there? I think if we can get a summary without so much arguing back and forth, perhaps we can begin to make some progress. Seraphimblade Talk to me 03:44, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder of editing restrictions

[edit]

Notice: Under the terms of Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Armenia-Azerbaijan 2, any editor who edits articles which relate to the region of Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran and the ethnic and historical issues related to that area in an aggressive point of view manner marked by incivility may be placed under several editing restrictions, by notice on that editor's talk page. This notice is to remind you that you are listed as one of the users placed under supervision. I would like to remind you that are you are placed under the following restricitons:

  1. Revert limitation (formerly known as revert parole). You are limited to one revert per page per week, excepting obvious vandalism, and are required to discuss any content reversions on the page's talk page.
  2. Supervised editing (formerly known as probation). You may be banned by any administrator from editing any or all articles which relate to the region of Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran and the ethnic and historical issues related to that area should you fail to maintain a reasonable degree of civility in your interactions with one another concerning disputes which may arise.
  3. Civility supervision (formerly known as civility parole). If you make any edits which are judged by an administrator to be uncivil, personal attacks, or assumptions of bad faith, then you may be blocked for a short time of up to one week for repeat offenses.

You made three reverts in the same week here, here, and here at Sheylanli tribe. I am going to let it slide this time, but from now on please follow the terms of your editing restrictions. Gulmammad has been reminded as well.

Enforcement: Violations of limitations, supervision, or bans imposed by the remedies in this case may be enforced by brief blocks of up to a week in the event of repeat violations. After 5 blocks the maximum block period shall increase to one year.

Note: This notice is not effective unless given by an administrator and logged here. Khoikhoi 19:35, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Poco, I'm afraid you're mistaken. I have spoken with Seraphimblade, and although I agree that this was not sufficient nor clear enough, he has clarified that it was indeed the warning/notice that the case applies to those areas. He has also said that when he warned you and Gulmammad, that he put both of you on the ArbCom case list at that time, as well. You can contact him if you are unclear on the matter, but you are definitely listed here, there is no dispute about that. Regardless, even though both of you were unaware of it, please be aware of it now. As far as I'm concerned, the editing restrictions start today, so please read them carefully so that you don't violate them. If you believe that you shouldn't have been put on the list, you can make an appeal of this sanction here. But for now both you and Gulmammad are on editing restrictions. I have examined both of your edits, and both of you have been edit warring against one of another. That is why both of you are now restricted to one revert per week, etc. Khoikhoi 21:49, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for my late response. I have spoken with Seraphimblade. He has stated that he definitely disagrees that you are not subject to the restrictions. He has also said that both you and Gulmammad were warned that future misbehavior would lead to sanctions, and since you're both involved, both of you are being sanctioned. He left a note on your talk pages so I presume that you're aware of the ArbCom case and its implications. If you have any further questions you can leave a message on Seraphimblade's or my talk page. Your recent speedy deletion nominations

[edit]

Hi. You nominated several articles for deletion recently, which were associated with the Khojaly Massacre article. I don't think that you should have done this. For one thing, there's a conflict going on between you and a couple of other people over the use of the word 'massacre' versus 'genocide'. The redirect from 'genocide' after you moved the page was not vandalism. Please be cautious in your use of the db templates, okay? It's too easy for a lazy administrator to delete something that's flagged as speedy-delete without properly looking into it. - Richard Cavell (talk) 22:37, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can take it to RfD if you feel that it is appropriate. I feel that the use of the term 'genocide' was done in good faith, even if it is an exuberant use of the term 'genocide', and that 'genocide' is a valid search term. - Richard Cavell (talk) 23:11, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

South Ossetian geography

[edit]

Hi there, I don't suppose you might know where one can get a high resolution map, or list of villages, etc, in South Ossetia? Stubs at the very least need to be created, and I did have a list but had virus which wiped out heap of files on my other PC, and I can't for the life of me remember where I found it. --Russavia Dialogue Stalk me 18:37, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have a 1987 list of the inhabited localities of South Ossetian Autonomous Oblast. If it's going to be of any use to you, I'll gladly share it (it's only about a dozen sparsely populated pages, so I guess I can re-type them fairly quickly). Note, however, that the list includes only the names in Russian. Just let me know if this is something you can use (I would, of course, prefer not to have to type it if more current sources are easily available elsewhere).—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 18:50, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Most of those articles were copies of existing articles about villages in the Ordubad Rayon of Azerbaijan, except they had their (alternative?) Armenian names in the headings. I retrieved the current names and directed them under proper headings, as much as it was possible. Morever, the articles constisted of two or three biased statements, were lacking sources, were mass-created by a recently activated account, and were POV, as they listed clearly Azerbaijani villages under 'Cities, towns and villages of Armenia.' I am familiar with WP:NAC (having done over 70 closures), and whilst it is based on WP:DPR, is still an essay, and whilst it is one that I certainly take heed of and adhere to to some extent I do not take it as the word of God. WP:SNOW is based on the future, and the inevitability of a certain closure pre-empting the need for further discussion. By that point there were four solid keeps with good rationales, and a fifth which suggested snowball keep, which I agreed with. WP:NAC suggests over six votes and over one day's listing. I would have voted keep for what it was worth as well, so that makes six, and it was one day and one hour old. The statistics are irrelevant to me - it was clear that the consensus would have been to keep the article. There was no reason why I shouldn't just help in clearing up potential backlogs by closing it early. Any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks, and have a nice day. :) neuro(talk) 08:10, 19 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

So that you know, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Phone Call to Putin (2nd nomination) has been re-opened after the inappropriate closure by neuro. And note for neuro in case he reads this, AFD is not a WP:VOTE. --Russavia Dialogue 21:19, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Response

[edit]

The page you point to refers to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names), which says:

When a widely accepted English name, in a modern context, exists for a place, we should use it. This will often be identical in form to the local name (as with Paris or Berlin), but in many cases it will differ (Germany rather than Deutschland, Rome rather than Roma, Hanover rather than Hannover, Meissen rather than Meißen). If a native name is more often used in English sources than a corresponding English name, then use the native name. An example is Livorno, which is now known more widely under its native name than under the English name "Leghorn".
If no name can be shown to be widely accepted in English, use the local name.

If you think that a widely accepted English name exists for any of the places that I have created articles for under the local name, please feel free to move them as appropriate. Most of those places are either historical and not much is used but the Latin form even in English, or rather small where no version is widely accepted in English different than the local name. A quick google sanity check will often show that the local name is more widely used than the older English one (if such there be), as exemplified by Leghorn/Livorno and Gdansk/Danzig... Can you take a look at the 2008 South Ossetia War article

[edit]

There is criciticism of the ISDP source, and a discussion on it, and some editors making edits without even bothering to discuss them first. Thank you. HistoricWarrior007 (talk) 22:15, 23 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I think the whole ISDP article is going to get sued in the European Court of Human Rights. Their writing against the European Convention on Human Rights. Usually slimeball writers get away, but on occasion they get Irvinged, named in honor of David Irving, the Holocaust Denier who went to jail. This will probably be a civil case, where the ISDP writers make a "donation" to the kids of Leningrad. I tend to be generally right about this kind of stuff. HistoricWarrior007 (talk) 03:23, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Banned

[edit]

You are banned for a period of two weeks from all AA related pages. When you come back, do not treat Wikipedia as a battle zone, or else you will get a much lengthier ban. Gaming the system, wikilawyering, and block shopping are not conducive to an online collaborative project. Jehochman Talk 04:20, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And I want to add that we're getting more serious at RFA about taking a hard look at people who seem to be dropping by and asking questions that really have nothing to do with the RFA at hand, but represent a kind of forum shopping. I have my doubts about the question you just asked in a recent RFA, but anyone is entitled to ask a question or two. If it becomes 3 or 4 different RFAs where you bring up questions that have nothing to do with RFA and everything to do with ArbCom, then I'll have some questions to ask. - Dan Dank55 (push to talk) 03:42, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I know how frustrated you are right now. Stupidity in this place has no limits. Someone with a brain cell or two will eventually show up and clean this mess. Meanwhile hang in there. VartanM (talk) 05:52, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Considering Jehochman's attitudes and demeanour, please let me know if you should pursue some form of dispute resolution. ΔιγουρενΕμπρος! 15:30, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Following Digwuren is a very poor idea. He was banned for a year, and is likely to be banned again if he continues his present disruptive editing tactics which include retaliation, intimidation, and fanning the flames of nationalistic disputes. Digwuren, consider yourself warned. Further instigation will be met with a block. The WP:AE thread was reviewed and my decision was upheld by the reviewing administrators. There is no dispute between Pocopocopocopoco, you and myself. Jehochman Talk 15:54, 27 February 2009 (UTC) and 16:02, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, your banishment should be over - Welcome Back!

[edit]

And please review the South Ossetia Talkpage. Now we have 200 kilometers of Russian Tanks, and did you know that according to Svoboda News, after all it's a Russian source so it must be credible, Georgia is still in control of South Ossetia?! You really learn new stuff, it's amazing. Oh and there's a vote going on. Also, there was a recent "debate" about whether Abkhaz People and Ossetians should be called Abkhaz People and Ossetians, rather then Separatists, and of course in order to be considered a casualty, being merely killed's not enough, you have to be tortured too. Luckily, all that was/is being taken care of, but you still get a good laugh at all the attempts. Welcome back :D HistoricWarrior007 (talk) 08:39, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Editing survey

[edit]

Hi Pocopocopocopoco . My name is Mike Lyons and I am a doctoral student at Indiana University. I am conducting research on the writing and editing of high traffic current events articles on Wikipedia. I have noticed in the talk page archives at 2008 South Ossetia war that you have contributed to the editing or maintenance of the article. I was hoping you would agree to fill out a brief survey about your experience. This study aims to help expand our thinking about collaborative knowledge production. Believe me I share your likely disdain for surveys but your participation would be immensely helpful in making the study a success. A link to the survey is included below. An explanation of my project is included with the survey.

Request for help concerning energy...

[edit]

Hi,

I noticed you listed yourself as a participant of the Energy WikiProject.

There are 2 new outlines in this area that attempt to consolidate Wikipedia's coverage of their respective subjects, gathering and organizing the articles about them into one place and including descriptions for convenience. The purposes of these outlines are to make it easier for readers to survey or review a whole subject, and to choose from Wikipedia's many articles about it.

The new energy outlines are:

Please take a look at them, and....

if you spot missing topics, add them in.
if you can, improve the descriptions.
add missing descriptions.
show parent-offspring relationships (with indents).
fix errors.

For more information about the format and functions of outlines, see Wikipedia:Outlines.

Building outlines of existing material (such as Wikipedia) is called "reverse outlining". Reverse outlines are useful as a revision tool, for identifying gaps in coverage and for spotting poor structuring.

Revising a work with multiple articles (such as Wikipedia) is a little different than revising a paper. But the general principles are the same...

As you develop these outlines, you may notice things about the articles they organize. Like what topics are not adequately covered, better ways to structure and present the material, awkward titles, articles that need splitting, article sections lacking {{Main}} links, etc.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me on my talk page or at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Outlines.

Thank you. Sincerely, The Transhumanist 00:55, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. March Madness 2017

[edit]

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

[edit]

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017.
